As you get closer to Aoraki on the road to Ball Shelter it becomes impossible to see the mountain as it is blocked by the Wakefield range. Climbing up the moraine walls by the Blue Lakes gave me a glimpse as there were gaps in the cloud.

Maori design – rubbing

This was a children’s activity, and I will research it more – but I did the rubbing & now it is here but not as I said in the last post as one of the 1000 – it is here for inspiration.

Later: I went back to the gallery & asked about the origins of the work. They could not tell me but gave me the card of the person who curated it. But I have not followed up & lost the card!

Known also as tea-tree and the New Zealand Christmas tree as it always flowers around this time of the year, our place at Mt. Lyford is surrounded by trees with slightly pinkish white flowers.

It is these very flowers that put the small pink emblem into #246 below.

I prefer the previous sketch. Simple.

Waipera Pines 1

These last few sketches are not part of some new turn are they? If they recapitulate it is only me they are recapitulating. Yet as I did them I sensed development, perhaps not improvement but some movement in me, and so there is satisfaction.

Also I want this to be a sketch blog, and these are all scenes and moments from my life as I live it. It’s a diary, a travelogue, autobiographical in the most literal way.

Yet there is a turn to make – one I am feeling as a despair as I do this stuff. I don’t know how to do it. Doing more thinking about art, podcasts – conversations will that do it? Or is it a case of sketching my way through it? I think so.
