#175 Stella Saddle
Mostly sketched with the pen set to oil. Learning how to do sky. It worked here by having just the right amount of virtual turps in the mix. 100 makes for light and 95 is already quite dark!
This is the view from the stumps up to the saddle where the ski field road goes up to Lake Stella. This view is one that people see when they go on the “Stumps” Horse Trek.
#165 Kate & Eli
I am intrigued by this one. I began it at the same time as I did the early sketch #5 Eli, This one seemed too obscure at that time, but something is happening to what I see… I have more tech options and like this effect here. I think it has the feel of the walk at Mt. Lyford.
In case you are wondering… Kate had her hands tucked into her sleeves in the chill. I tried hands but prefer this version.

Fun exploring New Zealand art site – some great stuff there.
#153 Hills
This was one that goes with the Hill Lines ones I did a while back. I thought I’d posted it but hadn’t. Here it is belatedly.

#0152 Moonlight Flax
A beautiful walk in the moonlight inspired me to express myself and led to a lot of sketches – only this one is one I want to post. It captures the moment I think. The “paper” colour adds an effect that I think of as “cycloramic” and I created a gradient of colour darker at the top in Photoshop, it looked ok, but I think it does not need that. Keep it simple.

#149 Lloyd
I hesitate to say Lioyd Jones – but this was inspired by the cover of the NZ Listner August 5 2006 – featuring “Our First Million Dollar Novelist”.
